World Cup 2022: Ghana’s opponent Portugal sweats over Cristiano Ronaldo fitness just seven days before mundial

Ghana’s 2022 World Cup opponent Portugal have been sweating over the fitness of Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo just seven days before the tournament in Qatar.

The biggest soccer mundial has been scheduled for November and December this year, with 32 countries set to battle it out for the covetous trophy in Qatar.

The 37-year-old who has been named in the final 26-man squad for the World Cup was not included in Manchester United’s matchday squad for Fulham clash due to illness.

He also missed the 4-2 Carabao Cup win over Aston Villa during the week.

The forward’s absence in Manchester United’s last two games is a huge concern for Portugal coach Fernando Santos who will be counting on the former Real Madrid star at the mundial.

Ronaldo is expected to travel to Qatar as leagues go on break for the World Cup tournament.

He is due to jet off to Qatar and captain his Portugal side in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Manchester United boss Eric Ten Hag has allayed fears on the fitness of the Ronaldo.

“I can’t guarantee that now and he was ill for the Aston Villa game. He can recover from that. It’s not a serious illness that takes days or weeks.

“I think it is possible that he is available for Sunday and that he will be in the squad.

“I think the players are all aware of the importance of the game against Fulham and I will not take the World Cup into consideration.

“We play the best team and until Sunday it is the interest of Manchester United and just for Manchester United.”

Ghana will open their World Cup account against Portugal before taking Uruguay and South Korea respectively.

the Black Stars is making a return to the global showpiece after missing out in Russia 2018, where France emerged as winners.

The West African powerhouse are expected to take on Switzerland in a friendly before the start of the biggest soccer mundial in the Asian country.
