Torres and Mount feature in Chelsea news of the day

Here is a roundup of the top Chelsea news and gossip from icfootballnews that we think you guys may have missed –

Pau Torres would be a brilliant signing for Chelsea – according to reporter Iomie Stanley.

Chelsea spent some serious money in the summer transfer window and added some classy players to that back-line – But Graham Potter is still having issues in defense.

The January window will allow Chelsea to make some fresh moves and try to improve that back-line and it has been claimed that a move for Pau Torres is on the agenda for the Blues

The Spanish defender has been exceptional in defense for the Yellow Submarine and could be an ideal player for Graham Potter – and although Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurs are also chasing Torres, Chelsea is in a pole position to sign the young defender.

He has recently been hailed as a ‘fantastic’ player with a ‘fabulous’ left foot, and has emerged as one of the best ball-playing centre-backs in Europe – according to Owen Hargreaves.

Now – amid all the speculation – Stanley has come out and told IcFootballnews that Torres would be a brilliant addition to that Chelsea squad in the winter window

He said: ‘Torres is one of the best young defenders in the game.

‘He has already proven himself in the Champions League – is a full international and is a player that has plenty of years to develop into a real superstar.

‘Thiago Silva is right at the back-end of his top-level playing career and will need to be replaced – Torres could be that replacement.

‘His contract is running down – so there is a chance for Chelsea to get him for just £44 million – and that would be an absolute bargain.

‘From what we have seen from Torres over the past few seasons – he has all the ability – all the quality and all the talent to be a massive signing for a Chelsea  -a brilliant signing for the club.’

Mount expectation –

Chelsea expect to agree a new deal with Mason Mount soon – Blues fans have been told

Mount has become one of the most important players at Stamford Bridge over the past few seasons and is a man that Graham Potter can totally rely on

But Mount’s current stint with the Blues ends in 2024 and there has been some speculation in the media that the club are having complications on agreeing a new contract with the midfielder.

But now – according to recnt reports on The Athletic, a breakthrough has been reached in recent weeks following latest talks between Mount’s representatives and Chelsea chairman Todd Boelhy and co-owner Behdad Eghbali.

Now Journalist Dean Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that Chelsea and Mount could agree a new deal by February.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: “From what I understand, they do expect to put this to bed quite quickly now from here.

“It might even be that he’s got his new terms agreed by the time the Champions League restarts in February.”

Reporter Iomie Stanley has recently explained that despite there being claims of Mason Mount’s contract extension being stalled, the English midfielder will surely stay at Stamford Bridge.

“Despite some speculation doing the rounds, there is not much doubt that Mason Mount will agree a new contract at the Bridge,” he said

“It’s still not done but it’s under discussion, and for Chelsea it’s seen as an important priority to extend Mount’s deal – he is one of the most important players at the club right now.

‘I am sure that he is demanding what he deserves and we are sure that Chelsea will eventually give him what he wants

‘So even though there are also those rumours that Chelsea are already looking for alternative players to fill the void of Mount if he does leave the club – it is not really true and Chelsea dont want to lose the player

‘so at the end of the day – he is one of the clubs biggest players and it would be a massive shock to not see him agree a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

‘A massive shock.”

Depay free to move –

It has again been claimed that Barcelona are now willing to let Chelsea linked Memphis Depay depart the club in January.

Barcelona was in shambles after Lionel Messi left the club, as they were depended heavily on him for goals and as soon as the player left the club, there was a void and a lack of goals.

Dutchman Memphis Depay was brought in to fill in the space left behind by the Argentine, but he was not consistent enough in front of the goal and injuries have also messed up his time with the club.

Add the fact that the club signed Robert Lewandowski in the summer transfer window – and Depay has seen his minutes on the pitch drop dramatically – which has led to more speculation that he could leave in the coming transfer window

He was heavily linked with a move away from the club during the summer transfer window – but made the decision that he wanted to stay and fight for his place – but it has not worked out.

Barcelona have now opened the doors for Depay to leave in January. According to reports from the AS, Barcelona will listen to offers for the Dutch forward and accept should an interesting one arrives.

IcFootballnews View..

Depay is an interesting one because he flopped last time he was in the Premier League – so he dropped down to the French League – impressed and then moved back upto one of the big Leagues – and flopped.

Chelsea do need players to add some depth – but they would be silly to try and sign a player that can even score in that Barca team – he is not the type of player that would add anything to the squad that is for sure
