Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has emerged as one of the most in-demand players in Europe this season, thanks to his magnificent start to the league campaign with Napoli.
With 27 goal involvements in 26 matches in all competitions, the Georgian international has revved up Napoli’s bid for the Serie A title. He has also helped the Partenopei advance to the Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League.
Quite naturally, Kvaratskhelia’s performances have come under the radar of various top clubs across Europe, including Barcelona’s arch-rivals Real Madrid.
In a recent media interaction, however, Kvaratskhelia’s agent has hinted that he would like to see the player play for Barcelona. He even revealed that the player’s father is also an admirer of Barça. However, he did admit that Kvaratskhelia himself is a huge fan of Real Madrid.
“His father and I are Barça fans, but Kvara loves Real Madrid. If I see him in a Barça shirt I’ll be happy, but he’s a Madrid fan,” he said (h/t Giacomo Iacobellis).
The agent’s comments come at a time when Kvaratskhelia has not been formally linked with a move to Barcelona. Although the Catalans are actively looking for attacking reinforcements in the summer transfer window, the Napoli star has not been considered as an option.
This is hardly surprising as Barça might be aware of Napoli’s strong stance when it comes to keeping hold of the player. With the forward having a contract in Naples until 2027, the Italian giants have the leverage to hold out for a fortune.
And despite reports of Real Madrid weighing up a €100 million offer for Kvaratskhelia in the coming summer, it will be difficult for the Spanish giants to convince Napoli to sanction the sale of the Georgian international.
Barcelona, for their part, are not in a position to afford the player at all, due to their economic constraints. The Catalans are more likely to target free agents and cost-effective options in their bid to strengthen the squad in the summer.
