Following Spain’s early exit from the FIFA World Cup 2022, Luis Enrique parted ways with the national team and was replaced by Luis de la Fuente. As soon as the former Barcelona boss became unattached, there were murmurs of him replacing Diego Simeone as the manager of Atletico Madrid.
Now, according to Javi de la Pena on El Chiringuito, Atletico Madrid have already made their move to appoint Enrique at the end of the season by offering him a three-year contract.
And it is further claimed that if the 52-year-old takes over as the manager of the Rojiblancos, he could try and sign Barcelona forward Ferran Torres in the summer transfer window.
Torres has found it hard to nail down a place in Xavi Hernandez’s plans at Barcelona this season, although he has shown signs of form in the past couple of matches.
But, given the club’s financial health and the need to trim down their wage bill, player sales could be on the cards in the summer and offers for the Spaniard could be entertained.
Atletico Madrid have already shown interest in signing the former Valencia ace in the recent past. And that interest could be doubled down upon in case Enrique comes in and replaces Simeone as the manager of the Colchoneros.
Enrique knows Torres from their time together in the Spanish national team. The Barcelona forward played some of his best football in La Roja colours under the 52-year-old and was a key member of his setup in the national team.
However, a lot of things would need to align for Torres to potentially reunite with Enrique at Atletico Madrid, starting with the ex-Barcelona boss accepting the alleged offer from the Rojiblancos.
