Kylian Mbappe leads the 2022 top goalscorers list but Erling Haaland is now only a handful of goals behind the want-away Frenchman.
The criteria: All club goals in all competitions for clubs in top five leagues. Sorry Amahl Pellegrino.
10) Ciro Immobile – Lazio (23 goals)
At 32, he just keeps on keeping on. Six goals in ten Serie A games this season is excellent work from a striker who has hit 20 Serie A goals in five of his six full seasons with Lazio. That has got to be one the best £8.5m spends of all time.
9) Neymar – PSG (24 goals)
Goals, goals, goals from the Brazilian this season as he threatens to come into form just in time for the World Cup.
8) Sadio Mane – Liverpool/Bayern Munich (25 goals)
Five goals in a month for Mane as Bayern Munich come into some sort of form. He is thriving out on the left for the German giants. Mo Salah? He is 15th on this list, just out of shot.
7) Harry Kane – Tottenham (27 goals)
Currently suffering a two-game goal drought, which is not helpful for his slim Golden Boot chances while Erling Haaland is sidelined.
6) Wissam Ben Yedder – Monaco (27 goals)
Not even in the latest France squad, which tells you everything about the embarrassment of riches Didier Deschamps can boast. But who cares about goals totals when you have the handsomeness of Olivier Giroud.
5) Karim Benzema – Real Madrid (29 goals)
The Ballon d’Or winner is currently sidelined by injury; it’s hard work being this good at 34.
5) Erling Haaland – Borussia Dortmund/Manchester City (32 goals)
Has played comfortably the least amount of football of anyone on this list but has already scored a frankly ludicrous 22 goals for Manchester City.
3) Christopher Nkunku – RB Leipzig (33 goals)
It looks very much like Nkunku will be a Chelsea player next season, which could be an excellent piece of business as he is tearing up both the Bundesliga and the Champions League. Chelsea do break strikers, though.
2) Robert Lewandowski – Bayern/Barcelona (34 goals)
Just the 18 goals for Barcelona so far, which seems absolutely reasonable. He was the top scorer in 2021 and will be pretty damned close this year too. But regardless of his goal output, Barcelona have to win La Liga to justify their ludicrous summer outlay.
1) Kylian Mbappe – PSG (41 goals)
A goal every 80 minutes for PSG in 2022, is it? How excited should we be for France v Brazil v Argentina for this World Cup. And will they all be speaking by January?
