March 1 – The former captain of Manchester United and Serbia international, Nemanja Vidic, has submitted his candidacy for Football Association of Serbia presidential elections.
Vidic submitted his official candidacy alongside another former Serbian international player Danko Lazovic. The elections will be held on March 14.
Vidic’s campaign team includes Branko Milotinovic, the famous football referee Milorad Mazic, Petar Jovanovic, as well as the former football coach Slavolyub Muslim. Mazic is currently the chairman of the refereeing panel of the Cyprus Football Federation.
Miloticnović is a Serbian businessman who is the founder of Nordeus, which developed and published Top Eleven Football Manager, a free-to-play social football management simulation game.
The other big name on Vidic’s team is Jovanovic who is currently the Chairman of the Management Board of Raiffeisen Bank Serbia.
Vidic’s team also includes the best Serbian woman football player in 2022, Jovana Damnjanovic. If he is elected she will be made responsible for women’s football in the country – she is currently a player at Bayern Munich in Germany. Mazic, Milotinovic, Muslim and Jovanovic would be made vice-presidents of the federation.
Vidic is up against 76-year-old Dragan Dzajic.
Dzajic’s team includes names as Branislav Nedimovic, Janos Zemberija, Sandru Sremcevic and Branka Zecevic. They would be appointed as vice-presidents of the federation if Dzajic wins.
Nedimovic is former minister of agriculture in the Government of Serbia, while women’s football in Serbia is represented by Sandra Sremcevic, who is the president of ŽFK Crvena zvezda. Zecevic is owner of Metal Fer, one of Serbia’s largest export companies.
