Despite being involved in three clean sheets vs. Forest, Leeds and Wolves Danny Ward’s records are not convincing and still bottom of the stats among Premier League goalkeepers.
TCF is not convinced about Danny Ward as an answer long term at Leicester, with the game vs. Man City one major test.
Kasper Schmeichel, Ian Walker, Tim Flowers, Kasey Keller, Mark Wallington, Peter Shilton and Gordon Banks are previous class shot stoppers that in many games were the reason for a win instead of a defeat, with some fantastic saves made.
Brendan Rodgers selected Danny Ward as his first choice, and Daniel Iversen as his cover. As a manager you need to give a new goalkeeper a proper chance to establish himself, who ever you chose for the job.
Danny Ward was next in line and had been number two for a long period of time, he is also considered a number one for his nation Wales, but recently poor form made Wayne Hennessey their preferred choice. The Forest goalkeeper is at present a 2nd choice behind Dean Henderson.
In recent games the form of Danny Ward is showing a positive trend, with a number of good saves and steady performances. But looking at it with a sharp eye, very few goalkeeper in the league system would have had any problems saving those attempts.
Watching Danny Ward against Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal and Tottenham, he gave us no answers and the message is clear, the club needs a new goalkeeper in January.
We have seen a number of names as potential targets, and potential buyers coming in for Daniel Iversen. So the talk is on the wall as Leicester will be in the market for a new shot stopper in January.
Danny Ward needs to be on his toes vs. Man City and hopefully be able to step up even more. TCF was in favor of Daniel Iversen, hopefully in action vs. Newport in the EFL Cup, but still great credit to Brendan Rodgers for giving Danny Ward his backing, despite a few terrible performances.
