Naturally, the goal prompted wild celebrations from the travelling fans, who will no doubt be pleased that United signed off before the World Cup break with a win.
“You want to finish as good as possible just before this break and I think they [the fans] definitely felt the same,” said Eriksen. “They know there’s no more games for a long time now for club football, so it’s a good win. It’s a good feeling to go off at the World Cup so it was a good night in the end.”
On United’s season up to this point, Cristian said: “Of course there’s been ups and downs. There’s been some losses, but you’ll get that and you’ll be disappointed but in general, I think we have bounced back from the loses we’ve had and really taken another step.
“The ugly wins are very important in the Premier League. It’s a long season, you need all those points you can get and today we fought hard to get it and it’s a lovely ending.”
