After flirting with a departure from Bayern Munich, the Rekordmeister are in no rush to extend the contract of Benjamin Pavard (26), according to Bild. The Frenchman’s current deal expires in 2024.
It’s the second time in a matter of days that Pavard has spoken about a potential departure from the Bundesliga leaders. Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, the right-sided defender said: “I’ve won everything with Bayern. I’m ready to evaluate new and interesting projects.”
Pavard further stated that one day he would like to play in the Serie A. And per Bild‘s report, his latest statements haven’t gone down well with Bayern officials. The Frenchman, who also operates at centre-back, has played 1431 minutes this season, 87% of Bayern’s games – only six players have completed more minutes.
Both Chelsea and Manchester United were amongst the clubs interested in signing Pavard during the summer and for a long time, it looked as though the 2018 World Cup winner may leave. The defender impressed with his performances in the absence of Noussair Mazraoui and this season has become an important player under Julian Nagelsmann. Which is one reason why club management can’t understand Pavard’s latest statement.
After recent discussions, Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić will meet with Pavard’s representatives again in January and February to discuss the Frenchman’s future.
