Having chased the signing of FC Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong relentlessly last summer, Manchester United are once again set to make him a priority for this year, reports talkSPORT.

The 25-year-old had been United manager Erik ten Hag’s top transfer target for the summer of last year. The Red Devils were even understood to have reached an agreement with Barça to sign him up as well.

However, the Dutchman dug his heels in and refused to leave Camp Nou. Having initially struggled to feature regularly under Xavi this season, De Jong has now become one of the first names on the teamsheet and is now seen as an ‘untouchable’ at the club.

But, Manchester United are refusing to give up their pursuit of the Netherlands international and are once again ready to launch an attempt to sign him up.

Manager Ten Hag believes that he can persuade his compatriot after the Barcelona ace got a taste of the atmosphere at Old Trafford following United’s 2-1 win over Xavi’s men in the UEFA Europa League knockout playoffs last month.

Furthermore, the report states that the possibility of playing with Casemiro at Old Trafford is something that appeals to De Jong.

The Real Madrid legend joined Manchester United last summer and has quickly become a fan-favourite among the Red Devils faithful.

And talkSPORT is claiming that the prospect of sharing the pitch with him is seen as an attractive proposition by De Jong.

These reports, however, need to be taken with a pinch of salt as the midfielder has constantly maintained that he sees himself at Barcelona for a long time. The club officials have also made it abundantly clear that they are not planning to sell De Jong anytime soon either.
