Barcelona have stepped up their efforts to sign a midfielder in recent weeks, especially following uncertainty looming over the future of Sergio Busquets.
Nico Gonzalez is not enjoying the best of loan spells either, whereas Franck Kessie has endured a difficult start to his life at Camp Nou. In light of their struggles, Barcelona are determined to sign a new midfielder, with the likes of Ruben Neves and Martin Zubimendi being potential targets.
Barcelona are also targeting one more midfielder in the form of Youri Tielemans. The Leicester City starlet is a man in demand, especially with his contract at King Power Stadium expiring at the end of the season.
However, according to a report from Diario SPORT, Leicester City are determined to keep hold of the midfielder by handing him a new contract offer. They could offer the player an extension of up to two years, which could help them safeguard his future.
But the report suggests TIelemans could be looking for greener pastures after spending five years at King Power Stadium. That is where Barcelona and Real Madrid come into the fray.
Leicester City, though, are committed to fending them off by negotiating a new deal. But in case the player refuses to extend his deal, the club could look to sanction his sale in the January transfer window, in order to generate some revenue.
This could serve as a major boost for Barcelona, as they are looking for reinforcements in the midfield unit. Tielemans, to that end, could be an ideal target as the Belgian offers abundant experience at the highest level of football and could settle in quickly under Xavi’s tactical setup.
However, with Real Madrid also involved in the pursuit, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Leicester City midfielder this January.
