Barcelona forward on the radar of former club – report

Tasked with selling players to raise money, Barcelona’s administration did a fairly admirable job getting rid of the unwanted assets. While several of these players left on loan, it did allow the club to make space in the wage bill to register new signings.

The next goal for them is to cover the cracks in the team in January. That, however, is far from possible right now. As Joan Laporta said, La Liga is not read to allow Barcelona to make signings in the winter without generating more revenue first.

One of the players on the exit shortlist ahead of the transfer window is Memphis Depay. The dutchman has been linked with a fair few clubs, with a recent report from Mundo Deportivo claiming that Olympique Lyonnais are interested in bringing him back, too.

Memphis joined Barcelona from Lyon in 2021 on a free transfer after his contract clocked up. The two parties settled on a two-year deal, which allowed the player to choose his destination after two years of Camp Nou stay.

Speaking of former teams interested in Memphis, the report also claims that Manchester United are keeping tabs on the player. They have been linked with a move for him in the past, as well, but it seemed unlikely in the past.

Now, however, with Cristiano Ronaldo facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford following a rather controversial interview, United will be left with just Anthony Martial as the striker in the team.

Memphis would fit right into Erik Ten Hag’s team dynamics for a multitude of reasons.

Furthermore, with the Red Devils climbing the charts slowly but surely under the Dutch manager, the 28-year-old could get the chance to lead a Champions League side next season, as he so dearly wants to.
