Barcelona have been dealt with a huge blow ahead of their game against Real Madrid tomorrow as Andreas Christensen has picked up some ankle discomfort in training, as reported by Toni Juanmarti. The Danish trained for just 15 minutes today.
As such, he could be added to the injury list alongside Ousmane Dembele, Pedri, and Robert Lewandowski. The trio have been definitely sidelined for El Clasico in the Copa del Rey first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Without Christensen, Barcelona will likely start with Marcos Alonso in central defence, with Jules Kounde and Ronald Araujo taking their place, too. The latter is likely to get the nod at right-back to deal with Vinicius Jr’s threat.
Christensen has been immense for Barça this season, overseeing five clean sheets across 13 games. The ex-Chelsea man was playing second fiddle to Eric Garcia initially when the season started, but has won over the place from the Spaniard.
Xavi was already pessimistic about the Real Madrid clash, calling them favourites five times in his pre-game press conference. The injury to Christensen does not help his case, either. All hope likely rests on the return leg at the Camp Nou one month later.
