Annecy OM French Cup

Tenth in Ligue 2, FC Annecy signed the greatest feat in its history last night. However led, the Haut-Savoyard club managed to eliminate Olympique de Marseille at the stage of the quarter-finals of the Coupe de France (2-2, 7-6 on pens). Hardly disturbed by the equalizer in stoppage time for Igor Tudor’s men, with a brilliant penalty shoot-out and only one missed attempt in front of Pau Lopez, Laurent Guyot’s team will play in the semi-finals of the event to the first time in its history against one of the three Ligue 1 clubs still in contention, namely Olympique Lyonnais, Toulouse Football Club or FC Nantes.

A tribute to Mbappé

From the final whistle, several players let loose without depriving themselves of beating up the Olympians. “That’s a day’s work!”, took over the workforce, through a video relayed on the club’s official media. A sentence far from trivial since these are the same words that Kylian Mbappé had dropped last Sunday after the victory of Paris Saint-Germain in the Clasico (3-0, 25th day of Ligue 1). Annecy thus referred to the 24-year-old French striker, double scorer and passer for Lionel Messi at the Orange Vélodrome, to light up the Marseille clan in turn.

The atmosphere was quite different on the Canebière. Faced with journalists, Igor Tudor and Mattéo Guendouzi notably returned to the surprise defeat of Olympique de Marseille, which must now focus its efforts on qualifying for the next edition of the Champions League. Second in the standings, the current Paris Saint-Germain runner-up will travel to Rennes on Sunday evening, during the 26th day, in a crucial meeting for the race for Europe.
