Cairo giants Al Ahly have released a statement announcing their withdrawal from the 2023 Arab Club Champions Cup.

The Arab Club Champions Cup is currently held in Saudi Arabia this month and consists of 37 teams from 22 different football associations.

Al Ahly were set to feature in the competition but have found difficulties in fitting its fixtures into their busy schedule.

The Red Devils are currently taking part in multiple competitions including the CAF Champions League as well as the Egyptian Premier League.

“As much as the club wishes to participate in the Arab Club Champions Cup, it is not a possibility at the moment,” Al Ahly said in a statement.

“The local football season ends on July 15th, while the Arab Championship starts on March 20th and ends on August 5th.

“Therefore, the players and staff will not be able to rest or have a preseason, which will also lead to more injuries going forward,” they added.

Al Ahly’s upcoming game will be in the third round of the CAF Champions League group stages against Coton Sport on Saturday, March 4th.
